Seit ich das Nähen wiederentdeckt habe, ist das Tanglen erst zu kurz gekommen und schlussendlich ganz ausgefallen. Nachdem ich auf diesem Gebiet lange Zeit nichts mehr gemacht habe, juckte es mich vor ein paar Tagen dann doch wieder in den Fingern. Bunststift ausgepackt und los.
Since I rediscovered sewing, tangling got a little bit short. But a few days ago I got itchy fingers to do a tangle again. The shell in a mesh, that’s the title of my new work. Spirals and shell have a special fascination for me. We often can find Something rotating and screwing in nature too. Even our DNA, the kernel of life, is a double helix. And the mesh is a kind of nest. In German the words for nest and mesh are very similar. Both – mesh and nest – for me have to to with stability and security. The more a mesh is woven very close, the mesh is saver. But on the other side, the more saver a mesh is, the less proper motion is possible. In life it’s a dynamic and continuous process of balancing out of how much mesh we need and how much free space.
Shell in a mesh, die Muschel im Netz heißt das kleine Werk. Hat auch mal wieder Spaß gemacht. Und immer wieder Spiralen und Muscheln, ich glaube sie üben auf mich eine eigenartige Faszination aus. Gedrehtes und noch oben Schraubendes kommt ja in vielen Spielarten auch in der Natur vor, nicht zuletzt ist ja auch unsere DNA, der Kernel des Lebens schlechthin, eine Doppelhelix.
Und das „Mesh“, das Netz drumherum ist auch das Nest. Eigenartig, dass Netz und Nest auch schreibtechnisch ähnlich sind. Beides hat für mich etwas mit Ruhe und Stabilität zu tun. Aber auch mit Enge. Und so ist das immer wieder mit der Sicherheit. Je fester das Netz, je dichter es gewebt ist, desto sicherer ist es, ABER desto weniger Freiraum für Eigenbewegungen erlaubt es.
Im Leben ist es ein dynamisch, kontinuierlicher Prozess immer wieder neu auszutarieren, wie viel „Nest und Netz“ wir brauchen und wie viel Raum für Eigenbewegungen.
